It's Christmas at Burkhart!

I know it's been awhile since we've posted, as the holidays quickly approach we have become increasingly busy! So instead of a designflex today, I have what off-kilter design we have been up to instead-- decorating our office for our holiday competition! We made an interactive photo display-- this is the whole designflex team! (Plus Greg!)Happy Holidays!

Extremely Cute and Incredibly Fuzzy.

Brittany
Holly
Sara
Today's challenge was brought to us by Laura, who wanted us to illustrate "the absolute cutest most fuzzy thing you can draw." Who knew drawing 'fluff' could be so challenging?

Thanks Laura!! (We miss you! Hope you are having fun in Cali!)

Day 17: A lil' somethin' outta letters.

Brittany
Holly
Sara
As it's been quite awhile since we've posted, so we thought to kick it off with a fun one. As you know, us designers are a tad fond of type... so we did another type challenge!

Day 16: Soda creation

Sara
Holly
Brittany
Hello again! After a couple of (very busy!) weeks, we have once again started 'flexing'. It was about time too-- I think all of our poor little brains needed a boost. Today's challenge was to "make your own soda can. name your soda and design the can or bottle." Happy Tuesday everyone!

Day 15: Monstermonstermonster.

Alyssa (daughter of Sarah Gill)

Our guest artist of the day! Today (April 28, 2011) was Bring your Kid to Work day at Burkhart. Alyssa came over and helped us out in the marketing department, and took part in our monster challenge! She contributed Dork, the Rainbowmonster. Thanks for helping us out Alyssa!

Sara
Brittany
Today's challenge was to design a monster. (First monster added at a later date!) Today Holly is out of the office in Salt Lake City for an interview for Catalyst, so Brittany and I went it alone. Things like monsters are always the sillies to design-- so many options! It's quite a nice break on our tired little Monday-brains.

Day 15: Patterns

Holly
Brittany
Sara
Today's challenge was to design a pattern. Do they repeat? Does it align to a grid? Does it even make sense?

Perhaps.

Either way, we're happy designers.

Day 13: 6% Net Logo

Brittany
Holly
Sara
Today's challenge was to create a 6% Net logo for Burkhart. We all agreed that it was neat that you could take a small number and one word and come up with 3 totally different concepts-- yay design team!

Day 12: Design a robot

Sara
Brittany
Today's challenge was to design a robot. Being the end of the day we needed a little 'zing, creating a robot was just the fix!

Day 11: A monkey at a party.

Sara
Brittany
Holly is out sick today, and since it has become particularily quiet in the office Brittany and I decided we needed to challenge. Today's challenge was to design a monkey at a birthday party. BAM. There you go.

Day 10: Movie ticket/promo redesign

Brittany
Holly
Sara
Today's challenge was to redesign a movie ticket-- or as it could also be interpreted, something to do with getting into a movie. So, today, Brittany has Wall-E on the brain; and Holly and I both believe tickets should be a bit more typographic. (In all cases, we agreed that we would probably get yelled at by the theaters-- "What? Our printers can't print those!" Whoops. Well, at least they're fancy!)

Friday, July 16, 2010

Day 9: 'H' Sports!

Sara
Holly
Brittany
Today's challenge was to design an image using the letter 'h' and a sport-- (Originally the challenge was to design something using the letter 'h' and a sport starting with 'h'-- but, being girls who couldn't think outside of 'hockey' we gave up and re-wrote the challenge)-- which, once again, took us in three entirely different directions! (Look mom-- gymnastics, football and baseball, oh my!) Or is that 'my-oh-my'?

Day 8: Turn a letter into something else.

Holly
Sara
Brittany
Today's challenge was to turn a letter into, well, something. In typical marketing team fashion, all of us were a bit cheeky today and had a little too much fun with this. Hooray daily challenges!

Day 7: Something you hate to draw

Sara
Brittany
Today's challenge was to draw something that, well, you hate to draw. This one was easy for Sara, who hates to draw pretty much any type of transportation. Brittany had quite a time; as she couldn't think of anything that she didn't actually enjoy drawing. Finally, we both came to agreements! Cars and Self Portraits.

Day 6: A T-shirt for your designer friend

Sara
Brittany
Today's challenge was to design a super nerdy graphic design shirt. (McNerdy, actually.) It seems as though this whole time we've been choosing Brittany's ideas-- and each day we get insight into her vocabulary ('fancy' 'McNerdy', etc). Go Brittany, go. (You saucy minx!)

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Day 5: Fancy Bike

Sara
Brittany
Today's challenge was to draw a fancy bike... and Brittany and I both agree that the Victorian bicycle is definitely the fanciest. (We keep our designs secret until we present at the end)

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Day 4: Coolest clock in the world.

Sara
Brittany

Today's challenge was: If you owned the coolest clock in the world, what would it look like? I think Brittany and I were in a bit of a spin this afternoon-- both of our clocks are a tad silly. I guess that's right on character now that I think about it...

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Day 3: What animal are you?

Today's challenge was courtesy of Brittany again-- If you were an animal, what would you be? Brittany would be a penguin, and Sara would be a golden retriever. (Both quite silly I might add!)

Day 2: ______&________

Sara
Holly
Brittany
Today's post was by Brittany, and was "______&______". Fill in the blanks!

After a much needed design break today, all of us turned a little crazy and illustrated the first things that fell into our heads. (Gotta love it when our heads are filled with Cher, Fish and Sunshine!!)

Day 1: Improving the Gummy Bear

Holly
Sara
Brittany
Welcome to our blog! Our challenges will consist of a few Burkhart specific challenges, mixed in with the random and obscure. We hope you enjoy!

Today's challenge was to make an improvement on the traditional gummy bear. Our solutions consisted of a watermelon flavored gummy, ty dye and Indiana Jones.
